Malay (Bahasa Malaysia) is the national language. English is widely spoken, especially in cities, tourism, and business — a legacy of British colonization. Most signage is bilingual. Many Malaysians are multilingual, speaking Malay, English, and Chinese or Tamil. Communication in English is generally easy for tourists.
KL has LRT, MRT, and monorail systems. Grab is essential. Domestic flights are affordable (AirAsia based here). Long-distance buses are comfortable and cheap. ETS trains connect KL to Penang. Ferries to islands. Driving is on the left side. Kuala Lumpur has moderate traffic congestion.
Mix of cash and digital. Touch 'n Go eWallet and GrabPay are popular. Credit cards accepted at malls, hotels, and chain restaurants. Hawker stalls and small shops often prefer cash. ATMs widely available. Malaysian Ringgit offers good value for tourists.
Tropical climate year-round. Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country — modest dress is appreciated, especially in rural areas and mosques. Tap water is generally treated but bottled water is recommended. Food hygiene at hawker stalls is generally good. Power outlets use Type G plugs (240V, same as UK).
