Italian is the official language. English spoken in major tourist areas but less common in rural areas and the south. Learning basic Italian phrases is appreciated.

Trenitalia and Italo high-speed trains (Rome-Milan 3 hours). Regional trains. Excellent bus system. Ferries to islands. Car rental great for Tuscany/Amalfi.

💳 Payment

Cards increasingly accepted. Cash still important at trattorias, markets, and small shops. Coperto (cover charge) at restaurants. ATMs at banks.

📋 Travel Basics

Mediterranean climate. Tap water safe (Rome's fontanelle are drinkable). Watch for pickpockets in tourist areas. Siesta/riposo (afternoon break) in smaller towns.
